This year's first home game, Wednesday 20 April, at Vojens Speedway Center offers a top showdown between the 2021 silver team SES - Sønderjylland Elite Speedway and the reigning champions Holsted Tigers, with the triple world champion Nicki Pedersen on the team.
It is fourteen years since he last became world champion, but it certainly could not be seen when the 45-year-old Nicki Pedersen, shortly before Easter, sent shock waves through the Polish speedway environment by becoming the top scorer with 15 + 1 points in his opening match in the PGE Ekstraleague .
Vojens Speedway Center expects a large audience for the spectacular season opening because the audience with customer cards from Broager Sparekasse and OK Benzin has free admission, just as the supporters from SønderjyskE Ice Hockey show up in large numbers.
A flying and hungry Nicki Pedersen is not good news for SES- Sønderjylland Elite Speedway, which also lost to Holsted in the Super Final in September 2021.
- But this autumn it was a final with four teams, whereas the meeting on Wednesday 20 April is a two-team match - a direct showdown between us and Holsted - and it will be decisive who has the best squad, says SES team leader Claus Ørts.
The final team line-up is only known a few days before the start, but SES - Sønderjylland Elite Speedway has the double Danish champion and Grand Prix driver Anders Thomsen and Nicolai Klindt in the leading positions, probably together with U21 WC silver winner Mads Hansen, and two other drivers from the gross squad, which also consists of Benjamin Basso, Jesper and Jonas Knudsen, Kai Huckenbeck, René Deddens and Martin Smolinski.
