On a warm spring evening, SES Sønderjylland Elite Speedway succeeded – for the first time – in taking home the victory in a season opener.
The reigning Danish champions from Slangerup Speedway Klub were sent home over the Great Belt with 44-40 – and now an exciting match for bonus points awaits later in the season between the two teams.
Slangerup got off to a good start in the close and well-run match and narrowly led until heat number seven, where SES finally equalized. But the only 5-1 of the match in heat number nine – Anders Thomsen and Mikkel Andersen – turned things around in the SES team's favor, and that advantage held all the way home with a new series of 3-3s.
The new SES profile, Latvian Andzejs Lebedews, was, together with young Mikkel Andersen, the big bright spots for the home team, while Michael Jepsen Jensen with two course records was flying for the North Zealanders.
There were over 2200 spectators.
SES will play next week at Moldow Arena against Holsted Tigers, who won against Fjelsted on Funen tonight.
