The four-day event to nominate both the senior and U21 team world champions in speedway in 2022, Speedway of Nations, will still be run from the 27th-30th. July, but will now take place at Vojens Speedway Center.

The change was necessary when EMS Event AsP's CEO Lars Guldager Dyhr resigned due to ill health and the board of directors of this company was unable to continue the event. We wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

FIM and Discovery Events thank our partners at Vojens Speedway Center for being willing to step up and host the event at such short notice and look forward to working with them to make the new era's first FIM Speedway of Nations under it global promoter Discovery Sports Events to a great success.

Vojens Speedway Center is only 71 km from Esbjerg's Granly Speedway Arena, and it is hoped that this will cause as little disruption as possible for both teams and supporters' travel plans.

Ticket information will be announced very soon. The draw and format of the FIM Speedway of Nations remains unchanged.

The competition opens on Wednesday 27 July with semi-final 1, with semi-final 2 on Thursday 28 July and U ”1 on Friday 29 July. The three best countries from each semi-final will host Denmark in the FIM SON final on Saturday 30 July.

Facts about FIM Speedway of Nations 2022

Seven nations compete in semifinal 1 on Wednesday, July 27, after which seven other nations meet in semifinal 2 on Thursday, July 28.

The draw for the individual semi-finals is made by FIM.

The three highest-ranked nations in each semi-final advance to the SON World Cup final, to which Denmark is seeded as the host nation.

As a change from 2021, the final will no longer extend over two days, but instead take place as a one-day final that will end an exciting week on Saturday, July 30th.

Both in Friday's SON 2 event (formerly known as the FIM U21 WC for couples). and Saturday's SON final, the highest scoring nation in the opening 21 heats will automatically advance to the all-important Grand Final.

The second highest and third highest placed team will meet in a Grand Final Qualifier for the last final place, after which the highest scoring team in the Grand Final will be named 2022 SON world champions.

The points system in SON remains unchanged, where a heat victory gives four points, three points for number two, two points for number three, while there are zero points for a last place, just as is the case if the rider is disqualified or eliminated.

This format rewards team driving and it is therefore vital to avoid last place. England clearly showed this when Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley finished second and third behind Poland's Bartosz Zmarzlik and secured the 2021 SON World Cup with a 5-4 victory in last year's World Cup Grand Final in Manchester.

Denmark has won the Team World Championship in speedway 15 times, since the beginning in 1960. It happened first in German Landshut 1978 and most recently in Polish Bydgoszcz 2014.

The last time Denmark won on Danish soil was in 2008.
